AveiroArte
Visual Identity for an Art Exhibition
This project was sponsored by Aveiro’s City Hall in collaboration with the AveiroArte Association, commemorating the association’s 50th anniversary.
A collective art exhibition was organized to mark this milestone, requiring a complete visual identity across various formats and platforms.
I co-led the design process alongside one other designer. Together, we developed the full visual strategy for the event — from concept to execution.
Our main challenge was to innovate visually while maintaining the association’s existing identity.
The exhibition’s branding needed to stand out from previous communications — visually richer and more celebratory — without losing connection to AveiroArte’s visual heritage.
To reflect the diversity and depth of the exhibited works, we chose to incorporate different painting textures throughout the visual identity. Each format used a unique texture, showcasing the variety of artistic voices within the exhibition while maintaining a cohesive system.
Our texture selections were driven by aesthetic quality and color harmony with the surrounding layout. We opted for a minimalist sans-serif typeface to ensure clarity and balance against the rich, detailed textures. This allowed the artwork-inspired backgrounds to shine without compromising legibility or design coherence.
The final identity was a visually dynamic system that felt unified despite the variation across formats. Each piece had it’s own artistic presence, yet together they formed a consistent and thoughtful visual narrative. The identity paid homage to the artistic nature of the exhibition while adhering to strong design principles.
The exhibition was a success, attracting full audiences over several days. The branding contributed significantly to it’s strong visual presence and community impact in Aveiro’s cultural scene.
